Frustration at Koshien – Hanshin Shut Out After Defensive Struggles
A frustrating loss at home for Hanshin.
Starting pitcher Duplantier struggled with his control early but managed to escape the first inning without damage. However, in the second inning, a costly error by shortstop Kinami opened the floodgates.
Hanshin lost momentum, and Duplantier gave up three runs — all unearned. Though he settled down afterward, the offense couldn’t find a rhythm.
Morishita and Maegawa both had multi-hit games, trying to spark the lineup, but Hanshin ultimately stranded runners and couldn’t capitalize. Despite collecting eight hits, they were shut out.
Meanwhile, Kinami, who committed the crucial early error, ended up making three errors in total today.
His defense looked shaky, almost like he was battling the yips, and the struggles clearly carried over to his hitting: 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
Given that backup shortstop Obata is ready and waiting, it might be wise to give Kinami a short mental break to reset.
And still — Hanshin’s struggles at home continue.
Every small misstep seems to snowball into pressure, feeding a bad cycle.
It’s only the early season, but we can only hope a turning point comes soon.
One thing is for sure: we absolutely have to avoid a three-game home sweep.
(And as usual, today’s TORAMARU… mysteriously disappeared somewhere midgame when things started going badly.
