Tigers Cruise to Victory Over Swallows, Climb Back to Tied First Place
Hanshin snapped their four-game losing streak in dominant fashion, earning their second consecutive win with a strong all-around performance against the Yakult Swallows. With the Giants falling to DeNA, the Tigers are now tied for first place.
In the bottom of the 1st, after a two-out single by Nakano, he stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Sato Teru followed up with an RBI single to right, putting Hanshin on the board.
In the 3rd inning, with runners on the corners and one out, Ohyama laced a double down the third base line, driving in two more runs. Then in the 6th, Nakano added a sac fly with the bases loaded. That was followed by a deep fly from Morishita that center fielder Nishikawa dropped, allowing two more runs to score.
Starter Duplantier was sharp, going six innings with four hits and no runs to earn his first win in Japan. Notably, Yuasa came on in relief in the 6th—his first appearance at Koshien since returning from ossification of the yellow ligament, a nationally designated rare disease.
